The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability is available to assist in the carrying out of works that are reasonably necessary for the purposes of rendering a house more suitable for the accommodation of a person with a disability who is a member of the household.

Is it means tested? All applications for grant aid under the Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme shall be assessed on the basis of Taxable Gross household income. The maximum grant of €30,000, or 95% of the total invoiced cost, will be available to applicants whose gross household income is less than €30,000 per annum, tapering to 30% for applicants with gross household incomes between €50,001 to €60,000 per annum. What type of work is covered? The types of works allowable under the scheme can be varied and include the provision of:
- Access ramps
- Downstairs toilet facilities
- Stair-lifts
- Accessible showers
- Adaptations to facilitate wheelchair access
- Extensions
- Any other works which are reasonably necessary for the purposes of rendering a house more suitable for the accommodation of a person with a disability.
Tax requirements Any contractor undertaking works for Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability must submit a current Tax Clearance Reference Number with the estimates for the required works. In the case of grant applications totalling €10,000 or more, the applicant must confirm Tax Clearance Reference for tax clearance verification purposes issued by the Revenue Commissioners must be submitted.
