'Stories from the Landscape' is a collaborative project between the Heritage Offices in Tipperary, Galway and Clare and the Galway Film Centre.
A series of 9 short films were shot last year, 3 in each county, dealing with a variety of heritage stories.
Paul Murphy from the Galway Film Centre travelled to Tipperary to meet with Gearoid O Foighil from Cloughjordan who was filmed on Scohaboy bog talking about the restoration and development of the boardwalk and community initiatives on the site over the last few years.
He also met with Archaeologist Louise Nugent who brought him on a tour of sites in Cahir, Cashel, Holycross and Fethard to discuss the legend of the Goban Saor in Tipperary.
Finally he went to the Slieveardagh area where he met with former miner Michael Cleere who gave him a history of mining in the area and then ‘Danced the Culm’, which is a tradition associated with the mining area in which a domestic fuel is produced.
The films seek to show the richness and diversity of our heritage and to highlight the work of communities and individuals who are working to record and preserve this heritage.
The Heritage Office wish to thank the Galway Film Centre, Paul Murphy, Gearoid O Foighil, Louise Nugent, Michael Cleere and Margaret O Brien and all who helped with this project.
