The purpose of this, the local authority element of the Major Emergency Plan is, in the event of such an emergency:
- To outline generally the procedures to be followed and the functions to be undertaken by the local authority services.
- To coordinate the procedures to be followed and functions to be undertaken by the local authority, with those of the Health Service Executive, Gardai and any other agencies responding to an emergency.
The Major Emergency Plan is the combined, coordinated plans of the Local Authority, Health Service Executive and Gardai in the area where the emergency occurs.
