The potential of the Shannon Estuary to deliver unprecedented economic and environmental transformation for the region, the entire country and to play a part in the greening of Europe was endorsed by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Minister Simon Coveney, Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister Norma Foley at the Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce report launch at the weekend. Not just that, there was a clear commitment from all local and national stakeholders to work towards delivering on this ‘opportunity of the century’ for Ireland - an entirely renewable energy powered ‘Atlantic Green Digital Corridor’ stretching the breadth of the Atlantic seaboard, from Donegal to Cork and further inland, delivering true balance to the national economy for the first time. An historic day as the report was launched at the ESB’s Ardnacrusha Generating Station, the seat of another energy revolution which electrified Ireland almost 100 years ago.
